Profile of Mike Seloane

Mike Seloane is currently a Public Service Commissioner
based in Gauteng Province. Before joining the Public Service
Commission, he was a civil servant in the National
Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs
from June 2009 until October 2011 where he served in various
capacities including being the Portfolio Head for Provincial
and Municipal Governance Support and Acting Head for the
National Disaster Management Centre.
His parliamentary experience began in 1994 as a founder
Member of the new Gauteng Provincial Legislature (MPL)
representing the African National Congress (ANC). After
leaving the Legislature in December 1995, he joined the
Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) where
he served as a Business Development Manager, he returned in
1999 and served as an MPL until 2009. As an MPL, he served
on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) for ten
years, five as Chair, and numerous other committees. He also
served on the Association of Public Accounts Committees
(APAC) as Treasurer for seven years. As part of APAC, he
chaired the inaugural meeting of the Southern African
Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts
Committees (SADCOPAC) in 2003.
Mike has been a political activist for more than thirty
years. He was an activist in the youth and student movement,
trade union, civic, the UDF, NGOs and broader education
movement. He has held several leadership positions in the
ANC from branch, sub-regional, regional and provincial
level. He is currently the Chairperson of Mamelodi Community
Information Services, Director of Centurion City Improvement
District Forum and a Trustee of Thathazakho community
Development Trust in Centurion.
He is married and has three children.
