Background
On 14 May 2024, the South African Public Service Commission (PSC) called a meeting with the representatives of the Public Service Commissions
in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) led by their Chairpersons to establish a Forum of Public Service Commissions, where members
in the region can convene and engage on matters of common interest, including, inter alia, collaboration and sharing best practices, mobilisation
of resources and co-ordination of the SADC inputs to the Association of African Public Service Commissions (AAPSCOMS), as an organised SADC block.
The Chairperson of the South African Public Service Commission (PSC), Professor Somadoda Fikeni, who is also the initiator of the Forum, was
nominated interim Convenor of the newly created SADC Public Service Commissions Forum. Namibia was nominated as the Deputy Convenor until the full
structure is established. The Forum will hold its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) in South Africa with the view to elect its leadership and
adopt institutional arrangements. Other issues to be discussed during the three-day meeting will include the following amongst others:
- Public Service Reforms in the continent, especially the SADC Region
