South African Public Service Commission to Host the Inaugural General Meeting of The Chairpersons of the SADC PSC’s Forum in Cape Town

The South African Public Service Commission will host the Inaugural General Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Public Service Commissions Forum from 06-08 August 2024 in Cape Town. .

The Minister for Public Service and Administration, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi will deliver an opening address at the General Meeting.

Background

On 14 May 2024, the South African Public Service Commission (PSC) called a meeting with the representatives of the Public Service Commissions in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) led by their Chairpersons to establish a Forum of Public Service Commissions, where members in the region can convene and engage on matters of common interest, including, inter alia, collaboration and sharing best practices, mobilisation of resources and co-ordination of the SADC inputs to the Association of African Public Service Commissions (AAPSCOMS), as an organised SADC block.

The Chairperson of the South African Public Service Commission (PSC), Professor Somadoda Fikeni, who is also the initiator of the Forum, was nominated interim Convenor of the newly created SADC Public Service Commissions Forum. Namibia was nominated as the Deputy Convenor until the full structure is established. The Forum will hold its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) in South Africa with the view to elect its leadership and adopt institutional arrangements. Other issues to be discussed during the three-day meeting will include the following amongst others:

  • Public Service Reforms in the continent, especially the SADC Region
  • SADC PSC Forum founding documents;
  • Special Programmes and exploration of partnerships with Regional and International Organisations;
