Incorrect Reporting About the PSC’s Report on Qualifications of Senior Managers
15 May 2024
The Public Service Commission (PSC) has noted with concern an article titled: "Departments, Including Presidency,
Snub Inquiry into Public Service Managers’ Qualifications". The article written by Mayibongwe Maqhina and published
by the Cape Times on 14 May 2024 misquoted the PSC ’s report titled: REPORT ON THE QUALIFICATIONS OF SENIOR MANAGERS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE
The article makes the following incorrect statements:
The reporter lists The Presidency and Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) as departments that did not submit the required information
to the PSC. However, according to the PSC Report, the two Institutions did submit the required information as indicated in Table 2 of the report.
Therefore, it will be appreciated if this incorrect statement is corrected.
Furthermore, the article creates an impression that Commission Vusumuzi Mavuso was interviewed by the reporter. The PSC would like to put it on record
that Commissioner Mavuso was never interviewed by the reporter and this misinformation should also be corrected.
Following the release of the media statement on 07 May 2024, the PSC would like to confirm that the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural
Development had submitted the required information. To this end, the published report will be amended accordingly.
