PSC to Meet with His Majesty, King Makhosoke II Mabhena of Amandebele Kingship
17 October 2024
The Chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Professor Somadoda Fikeni together with Commissioners Magerule Sekonya and Bheki Zulu will meet
with His Majesty, King Makhosoke II Mabhena of Amandebele Kingship on Friday, 18 October 2024, in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga. The meeting will also be
attended by Deputy Chairperson of the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders, Inkosi Langa Mavuso.
The purpose of the meeting is to seek wisdom and guidance on how Kingship can work together with the PSC to address the needs of traditional
communities and promote their well-being. Furthermore, the meeting will discuss potential areas of collaboration between the PSC and the
Amandebele Kingship to enhance service delivery and development in the region. These engagements will assist in preparation of the enactment
of the PSC Bill, which will provide the PSC with the mandate to investigate and monitor the activities of the local government.
Background
Professor Fikeni held a meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA)
regarding the challenges faced by traditional leaders. He further met with the National House of Traditional Leaders in July 2024 regarding
the role of traditional leadership in South Africa. Both meetings resolved that the PSC should engage with Kings and Queens of South Africa
to gain valuable insights, advice and guidance on matters of mutual interest. It is on this basis that the PSC is initiating meetings with
different Kingships across the Provinces.
So far, the PSC has met with His Majesty, Morena e Moholo Moremoholo Motebang Mopeli and the Bakoena Royal Council on Tuesday, 15 October
2024 at Namahadi in Qwaqwa.
Following the engagements, the PSC will prepare a report and present it to the President and the Minister of CoGTA.
